How are Pressure Vessels Tested for Quality at BEPeterson?

How BEPeterson Accomplishes Quality?

We take quality seriously. To ensure this, all pressure vessels undergo stringent quality testing starting with the engineering design, during the manufacturing processes and at the completion of production. We have a team of highly qualified quality engineers and certified welding inspectors who thoroughly check the vessel against several parameters. The following outline the three major testing processes implemented at BEPeterson to test all pressure vessels.

1. Hydro Testing: In this test, pressure vessels are tested for strength. To perform this check, vessels are filled with a liquid, most preferably water, and then pressurized at least 1.5 times the actual pressure limit of the unit. The pressure is then reduced to the Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) and held. A visual examination is conducted to identify any cracks or leaks which result in a drop of the pressure.

2. Ferrite Testing: This testing is done to measure delta ferrite content in austenitic and duplex stainless steels. The measurements are done using a Feritscope. This non-destructive inspection technique helps to maintain a proper ferrite content, which in turn adds to the ductility, toughness, corrosion resistance and crack prevention.

3. Radiographic Testing: It is a non-destructive testing method, wherein the internal structure of the vessel is examined by directing radioactive rays such as X-rays or Gamma rays. The testing is mainly carried out to ensure the structural integrity of welded joints in the vessel.

Besides the aforementioned inspection methods, upon request we also conduct leak testing, Positive Material Identification (PMI) test, impact testing, and dimensional testing to ensure outstanding performance in challenging industrial applications.
