  • Precision Engineered Code and Non Code Pressure Vessels

    Pressure vessels are closed containers designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure. BEPeterson provides complete engineering and design of high pressure vessels for both ASME and non-code pressure vessels and high pressure tanks. For all code required pressure vessels we design to Section VIII which provides requirements applicable to the design, testing, inspection, certification and fabrication of pressure vessels operating at either internal or external pressures exceeding 15 psig.

    Pressure vessels are designed to operate safely at a specific pressure and temperature, technically referred to as the “Design Pressure” and “Design Temperature”.   • CRN Pressure Vessels

    Both Canada and the United States use the ASME Section VIII code for pressure vessel design and construction but Canada has standard CSA B51 that further defines a Pressure Vessel.

    Each province does its own registration and provides a CRN number which is put on the vessel nameplate. There are 13 provinces and territories, but to register across all of Canada, the “product” must be registered with 7 Organizations or Jurisdictions. The Atlantic Canada provinces and the northern territories have joined together to use one registration organization, ACI Central.

    Saskatchewan is the only province that recognizes the internationally recognized National Board registration system (ASME) as an acceptable alternative to CRNs, although an additional Saskatchewan filing fee also has to be paid per vessel. Pressure vessels that are CRN registered can also be National Board Registered if desired. A design can be registered in more than one jurisdiction.

    For pressure vessels manufactured outside of Canada for Canadian use, it must be both CRN registered and National Board registered.

    BEPeterson designs and manufactures CRN pressure vessels. We assume “turn-key” responsibility to insure that your pressure vessel meets all ASME and CRN requirements for the province where the pressure vessel will be used. Single province CRN’s or multiple province and national registration for OEM distribution is provided by BEPeterson.

  • BEPeterson is a PED pressure vessel manufacturer. BEPeterson builds PED pressure vessels to the European Pressure Equipment Directive or “PED” which is similar to the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.

    Both the PED and ASME provide requirements for certain pressure vessels and pressure equipment. The major difference between the ASME Code and the PED; as a directive (European law), PED compliance is mandatory within the European Union (EU). PED is required for pressure retaining equipment and for components being sent to the EU. The PED applies to equipment with pressures above 0.5 bar (approx. 7.25 psi at sea level).

To further ensure the quality of our PED vessels, BEPeterson is ISO 9001:2015 certified.     Recently BEPeterson announced the shipment of a PED Pressure Vessel for Ener-Core. The PED Pressure Vessel is the Thermal Oxidizer which makes up a key component of the Ener-Core Powerstation FP250. This system integrates the Gradual Oxidizer technology with gas turbine technology, offering both pollution control and electricity generation where previously impossible. This PED pressure vessel had a size of 60″ OD x 18.91′ OAL. The material of construction was SA-516-70. The Thermal Oxidizer pressure vessel was designed to 55 PSI @ 400 Deg F.

  • Lethal Service Pressure Vessels

    BEPeterson is a Lethal Service Pressure Vessel Manufacturer.

    Requirements for lethal service pressure vessels can found in ASME VIII-1 section UW-2 (2007 edition). The ASME Code specifically places the responsibility of proper classification on the user of the vessel. According to the Code, a lethal substance is a “poisonous gas or liquid of such a nature that a very small amount of the gas or the vapor of the liquid mixed or unmixed with air is dangerous to life when inhaled”.

    It is up to the user to determine if a service is lethal. BEPeterson cannot determine if a pressure vessel will be used in environment that falls under the lethal definition of the Code.

    Two definitions of lethal service are provided in UW-2:

    A vessel is to contain fluids of such a nature that a very small amount mixed or unmixed with air is dangerous to life when inhaled.

    By “lethal substances” are meant poisonous gases or liquids of such a nature that a very small amount of the gas or of the vapor of the liquid mixed or unmixed with air is dangerous to-life when inhaled. For purposes of this Division, this class includes substances of this nature which are stored under pressure or may generate a pressure if stored in a closed vessel.

    BEPeterson is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facility. We have installed strict processes for Quality and Inspection Plans in production of lethal service pressure vessels. BEPeterson’s Engineers and Quality staff are well versed in the design and manufacturing process for lethal service pressure vessels. We work closely with our customers to ensure the vessel meets the requirements for their application.

    Lethal Service Tanks can be built to a variety of sizes and can be furnished for atmospheric pressure, or designed for internal and external pressure. All materials are available including stainless steel, nickel alloys and reactive metals. As with other pressure vessels, these can be provided in many material finishes and weld finishes.

    Lethal Service Tanks will usually receive the “L” stamp on the ASME data plate indicating design and construction meet the guidelines set by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code. Special consideration of each vessel is required for fitting types, wall thickness, and non-destructive testing. Vessels can be designed in both vertical and horizontal configurations.

    Sizing Anhydrous Ammonia Storage Tanks

    We manufacture ammonia tanks keeping in mind, the different physical states, and behavior of ammonia gas,. Ammonia tank fabrication is performed to ensure maximum safety and reliability. The following factors are taken into consideration when manufacturing standard or custom ammonia tanks:

    1. At 60°F, anhydrous ammonia liquid weighs approximately 5 pounds per gallon.
    2. 5 SCF of ammonia vapor and 45 SCR of dissociated ammonia gas is generated by a pound of liquid anhydrous ammonia.
    3. A storage tank is designed keeping in mind that only 85% of its volume can be utilized. (Since the gas expands, vapor space of 15% is maintained to ensure safe storage and operations.)
