PED Compliance and Manufacturing
BEPeterson is a PED-certified manufacturer of pressure equipment. We produce our solutions in accordance with Directive 2014/68/EU at our facility in the United States and manage CE marking through recognized Notified Bodies (NoBos). Our team provides a complete technical file with every order, delivering market-ready equipment that includes the documentation you need to demonstrate conformity.
Our Projects Meet the PED Framework
The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) (2014/68/EU) establishes essential safety requirements (ESRs) governing the design, materials, manufacturing and testing of pressure equipment operating above 0.5 bar. Equipment is assigned to one of four risk categories, I through IV, based on fluid type, phase, pressure and size. The category determines the conformity assessment module, which defines the documentation, testing and third-party oversight required before your vessel can carry a CE mark. Our engineers conduct the category assessment at the start of every project to determine the appropriate compliance path.
How We Get Your Equipment CE Marked
For higher-risk equipment, an accredited third party, the NoBo, must review and approve the design before we can apply the CE mark. At BEPeterson, we manage the entire NoBo relationship for you, coordinating design examination, manufacturing surveillance and final testing as required by the assigned module. When the process is complete, the NoBo issues its certificate and we issue the Declaration of Conformity (DoC), authorizing CE marking for the European market.
Welding, Testing and Quality Assurance
Where EN/ISO welding standards apply, we qualify procedures and welders to EN ISO 15614-1 and EN ISO 9606. Our engineers create welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR) and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) that satisfy the module’s requirements. Where ASME Section IX is acceptable under the assigned module, our existing qualifications apply. We perform and document postweld heat treatment (PWHT) where code requires it.
Our experts run nondestructive examinations throughout fabrication, allowing us to catch defects early. We verify conformity progressively. Our NDE capabilities include:
- Radiographic testing (RT)
- Ultrasonic testing (UT)
- Liquid penetrant testing (PT)
- Magnetic particle testing (MT)
- Positive material identification (PMI)
- Ferrite testing
- Impact testing
We apply acceptance criteria per the applicable PED harmonized standards, and each project carries defined inspection hold points at material receipt, fit-up, weld completion and final test, providing a fully documented conformity trail before your vessel ships.
We Meet the Demands of Your PED Application
BEPeterson builds CE-marked pressure equipment across a wide range of materials, configurations and operating conditions, enabling you to meet the design specifications for your process requirements. Whether you need a thermal oxidizer for emissions control or a high-pressure separator for specialty gas processing, our capabilities cover it.
Compliance FAQs
Below are answers to some of the questions we receive:
Which Module Applies to My Project?
Module selection follows from the category assessment. Category I equipment can qualify under Module A without NoBo involvement, while Categories III and IV require modules such as B+D, B+F or H1 with full NoBo oversight. The right path depends on fluid classification, operating pressure and equipment dimensions. Our engineers can work through the assessment with you before the fabrication begins.
Can You Manufacture in the U.S. and Still Obtain CE Marking?
Yes. CE marking reflects conformity with PED requirements regardless of where the equipment is made. We fabricate equipment at our facility in Avon, Massachusetts, and coordinate CE marking through recognized Notified Bodies, shipping the complete technical file and DoC alongside the equipment.
What Is Included in the Technical File?
The technical file comprises design calculations, drawings, MTRs, weld qualification records, NDE and hydrostatic test results, PWHT records, the NoBo certificate and the DoC. If your end customer or jurisdiction has specific submission or format requirements, discuss them at the quoting stage and your project engineer will accommodate them.
